The Costa de la Luz runs from the Straits of Gibraltar to the Portuguese border, in the Southwest of Spain. The 'Coast of Light' is quieter and less spoilt than most regions, so you will see the real Spain on your holiday. Some of the finest beaches in Spain are on the Costa de la Luz, with broad expanses of soft white sand giving way to rolling sand dunes and pine trees inland. The reliable Atlantic breezes make the Costa de la Luz one of the best places in the world for watersports such as windsurfing and sailing.
Unlike most Spanish holiday destinations, the Costa de la Luz has small resorts dotted between old fishing villages and undeveloped stretches of sand. Inland, you can explore the spectacular mountains with their traditional Andalucian villages. The nightlife is quiet and peaceful, based around meals in original Spanish bars.
Situated 27km north east of Cadiz in Andalucia, Jerez de la Frontera is a centre of equestrianism, flamenco and sherry production.
Jerez de la Frontera became famous throughout the world for its sweet wines named after the town, which the British pronounced "sherry". It is called "de la Frontera" because it once stood on the frontier between the Moorish and the Christian realms. Jerez is also famous, throughout the world, for its fine horses and brilliant singers and dancers of flamenco.
Despite all the new attractions the town has developed for modern society, the town has retained it's charm and beauty and has preserved its history. There are many monuments worth visiting, not least of all the Baroque Cathedral with it's magnificent towers. The cathedral was built in 1700 on the ruins of an old mosque. It was built by the two brothers, Diaz de los Reyes in Seville style. The cathedral houses several important works of art.
For thousands of years, Jerez has been the centre for sherry and brandy production and as such, here you will find the bodegas of the top names in the sherry world. Most allow visits to the bodegas.
