The Costa Blanca, meaning ‘white coast’ is in the Eastern Valencia region of Spain, on the Mediterranean. The Costa Blanca was one of the first holiday resorts in Europe and is still among the most popular. It offers spectacular beaches and a warm welcome that has made it a firm favourite with British holidaymakers. The Costa Blanca is famous for its wonderful sandy beaches, among the best in the world.
All the activities you’d expect from a sun and sea holiday are within easy reach, so you could have the holiday of a lifetime without ever leaving your hotel or the beach. When the sun goes down, nightlife on the Costa Blanca is legendary. In the towns you will find cabaret bars, discos and karaoke, but there is also a host of small fishing harbours dotted along the coast where you can spend a quiet, romantic evening in a waterside bar.
Benidorm is the main resort on the Costa Blanca, and by far the best known. Developed from a small fishing village, Benidorm is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
There is something for everyone choosing to holiday in Benidorm. There are the wonderful beaches for sunbathing and swimming in the warm waters of the Mediterranean. Other attractions range from the Moorish castle at Guadalest and the old town, to Europe's newest theme park - Terra Mitica. Benidorm also has a sea life centre and a water park for children of all ages. In June the locals hold a street parade, with lots of dancing and a fairground.
Benidorm is now one of the cleanest and most popular resorts in the Mediterranean. Manhattan-style high-rise buildings greet you and the resort is well-planned and maintained to high standards.
Beaches of Benidorm
The excellent Levante Beach is hugely popular and near to most hotels. Poniente Beach nearby is a quieter retreat for those who prefer to get away from it all. Both are clean, broad and shelve gently, making them safe for swimming. They are regarded as two of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, in south facing bays sheltered by the mountains inland.
Shopping in Benidorm
As a break from the beaches in Benidorm, take a stroll around the narrow streets of the old town. It is packed with shops and small boutiques selling local craft products such as lace and leather goods. The modern resort is laid out in wide avenues which are lined with bazaars and stalls selling everything you could possibly need during your holiday.
Benidorm Nightlife
Benidorm is famed for its party atmosphere and you can dance the night away at numerous cabaret bars, discos and nightclubs.
Benidorm Specialities
Whatever you like to eat or drink while on holiday, you’ll have no trouble finding it in Benidorm. The streets are packed with bars and eateries: you can dine on fish and chips, chop suey, bratwurst or paella and drink sangria, lager or pina colada. In Benidorm’s old town you will find traditional Spanish restaurants and cafés serving tapas dishes and fresh fish.
